Star Dreaming Set Of 3 - Emu in the Sky, Seven Sisters & Beizan Shark

Emu in the Sky, Seven Sisters & Beizan Shark

For indigenous Australians the star cluster Pleiades in the constellation Taurus is known as the Seven Sisters. Stories described them as a group of young women being pursued by unwanted male attention. Featured on this coin is Wajarri-Noongar artist Christine 'Jugarnu' Collard's artwork Seven Jijas (sisters). Indigenous Australians were the first astronomers and have long used the stars as maps.

The majesty and wonder of the Emu in Sky constellation is captured in the art of Wiradjuri artist Scott Towney on this stunning uncirculated coin. The constellation is a silhouette traced by the dark spaces in the Milky Way, stretching from the Southern Cross to Sagittarius.

Across the country there are different stories about the emu constellation. In the Northern Territory one tale tells of a blind man banishing the spirit of the emu to the sky after his wife died trying to collect eggs. In the Ku-ring-gai Chase National Park near Sydney there is an Aboriginal engraving that appears to match the Emu in the Sky constellation.

With a small mintage of just 5000 of each, these 1/2oz silver frosted uncirculated one dollar coins features artwork by Wiradjuri artist Scott Towney.
